Sourced from the highlands of Doravalasa village, in the heart of India's Araku Valley, this rare organic coffee is hand-harvested between November and January. Each cherry is picked at perfect ripeness, guaranteeing exceptional quality. Thanks to a natural drying process, this coffee reveals a remarkable aromatic complexity and balance, characteristics of the finest specialty coffees. Certified by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), our Doravalasa Microlot is lightly roasted to enhance its floral and fruity notes, making it perfectly suited to gentle brewing methods.

In the village of Doravalasa, in the heart of the Araku Valley, Vanthala Chinnayya and his wife Kondamma passionately cultivate their two-acre plot of coffee trees. Year after year, they rank among the best coffee producers in the Araku region, thanks to expertise passed down and refined over time. The secret to their success? Meticulous shade management, essential for providing the coffee trees with an ideal microclimate. By regularly adjusting the shade level through precise and respectful pruning, the couple ensures that each plant receives exactly the light and coolness it needs to produce richly aromatic cherries.

What is a specialty coffee microlot?

In India's Araku Valley, an exemplary cooperative has developed, bringing together several thousand small-scale coffee farmers. Each family carefully cultivates one or more plots of coffee trees, thus preserving the diversity and richness of the local terroir. At harvest time, each batch of coffee is tasted separately by a panel of experts. This meticulous work allows the harvests to be classified and blended according to their aromatic profiles. Plots sharing similar characteristics are grouped together to form a clearly identifiable terroir, while the rarest and most remarkable batches are distinguished under the Microlot designation, a symbol of exceptional specialty coffee.

FAQs

The natural process is a method of treating coffee cherries after harvest. Unlike the washed process, the cherries are dried whole, with their pulp and mucilage still intact, usually in the sun. During drying, the sugars and aromas contained in the pulp slowly infuse the bean, resulting in coffees with fruity, intense, and often more complex profiles.

Our Doravalasa microlot is limited to 300 bags of 200g of specialty coffee beans.

The notion of specialty coffee corresponds to a quality certification awarded to the best Arabica coffees in the world and awarded by the Specialty Coffee Association. To be identified as such, the coffees are tasted and rated by “cuppers” (certified SCA experts). If the total score is greater than 80/100 then the coffee can claim the name of specialty coffee. All Araku coffees are specialty coffees and all have at least a tasting score above 86.
