How to store coffee?

How to store coffee? There are several answers to this question because each type of coffee has a preferred preservation method. As for green coffee, that is to say unroasted, it is generally kept in a cellar. The room temperature must be around 17°C and the humidity level must be 60%. However, as an individual, it is unlikely that you have green coffee at home. To store coffee beans, if the package is closed, the ideal is to place it in a cupboard. It will then be dry and protected from light. If it is open, you can also leave it in the cupboard. However, the ideal remains to place it in an air-free storage box, thus avoiding its oxidation. It will then keep for approximately two months from opening. Storing ground coffee is even more difficult. It actually loses its aromas much more quickly. This is why the best thing is to have a small grinder and grind beans every time you want a coffee. If you don't have a grinder, you can also place it in an air vacuum box that you put in a cupboard.


Is it possible to store coffee in the fridge? A question that many individuals ask themselves. The answer is no ! Whether the package is opened or closed, coffee cannot withstand extreme temperatures (cold or hot). In addition to being subject to humidity, coffee placed in the refrigerator will tend to absorb the odors present in the refrigerator (cheese, cooked meals, etc.), at the same time losing its aromas. This is why it is totally not recommended to put coffee in the fridge. Among the other recommendations for good storage of coffee that we can make to you, there is also the choice of packaging. In this regard, it is preferable to avoid non-resealable packages. The must is to opt for hermetically sealed bags equipped with a depressurization valve. Although very effective for preserving coffee, this packaging has a significant cost.
